Accessibility

Our commitment

Drry is built so that everyone can use it, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, magnification, captions or reduced motion. That covers this website, the console coaches use to run their community, the member pages their members use, our iPhone apps and Drry Video.

We work to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We have not yet had an independent audit, so we do not claim full conformance. The section below lists what we know falls short today.

What we do today

  • Most pages have a "Skip to content" link. Pages have real headings and landmarks and work with a keyboard alone, apart from the few tools listed below. Keyboard focus is shown with a visible ring.
  • Text colours are checked against the background they sit on. When a coach picks brand colours, Drry adjusts the shades used for text on a plain background so they stay readable.
  • Course lessons, recordings and uploaded video and audio get captions automatically, and members can turn them on in the player. Videos never autoplay with sound.
  • Forms have labels, say which fields are required, and read errors out to screen readers.
  • Motion is kept small and stops entirely when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Our iPhone apps label their controls for VoiceOver and respect Reduce Motion. Drry Video has keyboard shortcuts for mute, camera, raise hand and leave.

Known limitations

We are working on these:

  • Live calls and webinars do not have live captions yet. Recordings of them are captioned once the session ends.
  • Some lists in the coach console can only be reordered by dragging or with the keyboard, and do not yet offer Move up and Move down buttons.
  • Some form fields have a light border that can be hard to see.
  • The sign-in, join, booking and payment pages and community blogs do not have a "Skip to content" link yet.
  • Photos sent in direct messages cannot be given a description yet.
  • Text a coach places over a photo or video is not checked for contrast.
  • In the coach console, framing a background video and picking a comment thread on a blog post still need a mouse.
  • In the coach iPhone app, VoiceOver does not yet announce some live call status changes, such as reconnecting.

Content coaches publish

Each community on Drry is run by its coach, who writes its posts, courses, pages and emails. Drry gives coaches the tools to publish accessible content: a description field for images in posts, lessons and pages, automatic captions on hosted video, colour adjustment for readable text, and a page score that flags missing image descriptions and hard to read colours.

The coach is responsible for the content they publish, including writing image descriptions and checking captions. Custom code a coach adds to a page runs as they wrote it, and its accessibility is the coach's responsibility.

If something in a community is hard to use, tell the coach who runs it. If the problem is with Drry itself, or the coach cannot fix it, tell us.

Report a barrier

Email hello@drry.com with "Accessibility" in the subject. Tell us the page or screen, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology you use, if any. We will reply within five business days and, where we can, help you get what you need another way while we fix it.
