Every new member walks through a short setup before they reach the community. The Onboarding section of Customize is where you write it, and it is the highest leverage copy in your whole community, because everybody reads it exactly once, at the moment they are deciding whether they belong.
The welcome
A headline and a message. Two sentences: what this place is, and what to do first. Then a button, which you can label yourself.
The profile step
A heading above the fields and a line under it. Something like this is how you will show up to everyone else does more than any instruction.
The questions you ask
Pick from the profile field catalog and choose which are required. A username is always required and always shown; an avatar is optional either way, and you can decide whether it is always shown.
The done screen
A headline and a message shown once they finish, and the button that drops them into the community.
Every field is optional to write
Leave anything blank and a sensible default is used. You do not have to fill in the whole section to launch.
Common questions
Can a member change their answers later?
Yes, from their account page. Their username is the exception: it is fixed once chosen, so their name on a post from a year ago still matches.
Do existing members go through onboarding again if I change it?
No. It runs once, when somebody joins.
Can I see what somebody answered?
Yes, on their member record, alongside their activity and your notes.
