Transfer your community to someone else
Handing your community to a member: how to offer it, what they see, and the one thing that blocks it.
- ownership
- danger zone
- account
You can hand your entire community, everything in it, to a member who is willing to take it on. The offer lives in the danger zone at the bottom of Settings, between Cancel my plan and Delete community, because it belongs beside those two decisions rather than in the everyday settings above them.
Nothing moves until the person you offer it to accepts. You keep running the community exactly as you do today until that moment.
Offer it to a member
In Settings, open the danger zone and choose to transfer ownership. Pick the member you want to hand it to. Only the owner can start this.
They get a link, not a takeover
The person you named sees a signpost on their own member account page, with nothing to press there. The actual decision happens on a dedicated page only they can reach, because they do not hold a console seat yet and could not otherwise get to it.
They have 7 days to answer
The offer stands for a week. If they do nothing, it expires and nothing has changed. You can withdraw it yourself any time before they accept, and they can decline it outright.
Ownership moves the moment they accept
They become the owner. You keep a seat, an admin seat if your plan sells one and otherwise an ordinary membership. This is not something you can quietly reverse by changing your mind afterwards; the new owner would need to offer it back to you the same way.
What moves, and what does not
Everything a member would recognise as the community moves: courses, posts, guides, audio, funnel pages, members. Two things deliberately do not follow you out. Your calendar feed link stops working, so you cannot keep quietly watching a schedule you no longer run. And the community's Google connection is removed, since that credential is tied to your own personal Google account, not to the community.
Common questions
Why can't I transfer a community that takes payments?
The connected Stripe account, or a Drry billing record, can't be handed to somebody else along with the community: it carries the current owner's bank details, identity checks and refund history. A community with any payment history cannot be transferred today.
What if I change my mind after making the offer?
Withdraw it from Settings any time before the person accepts. Nothing has moved yet, so withdrawing simply cancels the offer.
Does the new owner keep my admins and editors?
Yes. Ownership moves; every other seat, and everything else about the community, stays exactly as it was.
Can I offer it to more than one person at once?
No. A community can only ever be offered to one person at a time. Withdraw the current offer first if you want to offer it to somebody else instead.
