Email new posts to your subscribers
When a post goes live for the first time, an email made from it goes to your subscribers. Who gets it, when, and how to turn it off.

Readers subscribe with the form at the foot of every post and on your blog's home. When a post goes live for the first time, an email made from it goes to everyone on that form's list who still takes email. The email is made from the post, with a button that opens it on your blog.
It is on until you turn it off, and it remembers
The first time you publish a post to a blog that has subscribers, Drry asks Publish this post? with a switch that reads Email it to your N subscribers, with your own number, already set. The button reads Publish and email or Publish to match. The answer you give for one post is where the next post starts, so you only answer when you want something different. When you schedule a post, Email when it goes live asks the same thing. See Schedule posts and use the calendar.
An editor's answer counts for their own post only. The blog's setting is the owner's and the admins'.
To turn it off for the whole blog, open Blog, then Settings, and switch off Email new posts to subscribers under the subscribe band.
When it does not send
Only a post's first time going live sends it. An update, publishing again after unpublishing, and posts you imported never email anybody.
Publishing many posts at once from the Posts list never emails anybody, nor does Publish with original dates on an import.
There is nothing to send when the blog has no subscribe band, when the band's form does not put people on a list, or when nobody is on the list yet.
It counts toward your emails
Each email counts toward your plan's emails like any other you send, one for each person who receives it, and it honours unsubscribes and carries your postal address footer. See Your send allowance. If it would not fit, or the blog is off, or sending is paused, the post still goes live and the email waits as a draft in Emails, where you can send it. The editor then shows Email not sent, and Send its email… in the post's menu opens the draft.
If the email could not be made at all, a message says so. Email this post in the post's menu makes one you can send from Emails.
Common questions
Can I email subscribers about an older post?
Yes: open its menu and pick Email this post, then send the draft from Emails. See Email a post to your members.
Will my assistant email my subscribers?
If you ask it to publish a post and emailing new posts is on, yes, exactly as Publish does. It can publish without the email when you tell it to, and it can turn emailing off. It cannot turn it on. See Manage your blog with your assistant.
