Your blog is a public home for your writing, on your community's own address. Readers find your posts through search, subscribe to get new ones by email, and read them on pages that wear your colours, fonts and logo. It is on every plan, and there is no limit on how many posts you write.

It is off until you turn it on, so nothing is public before you are ready. Drafts are private whether the blog is on or off.

  1. Open Blog

In the sidebar, under Grow, press Blog. A blog that has never been turned on opens on a Start your blog screen.

  2. Answer one question

The screen asks What kind of blog is it? Drry picks the answer that fits your account, Beside my community when your community feed is on and Just a blog when it is not. You can change it later.

    • Just a blog: a public blog on its own, with nothing to sign in to.

    • Beside my community: public posts that bring people to your community. The blog's header and the end of each post invite readers to join.

    • A paid publication: for writing you plan to charge for. It invites readers to join in the same way.

The kind changes the words and options Drry shows you and whether readers are invited to join. It never removes a post or a subscriber, and every published post is public whichever you pick.

  3. Press Write your first post

This turns the blog on and opens the editor on a new draft. Your blog is called Blog to start with. You rename it, and write its headline and intro, in Settings, as described below.

Writing somewhere else already? Press Bring your posts over on the same screen, or Import later from the top of the Blog page. See Bring your old blog over.

If you pick Just a blog

The first time you turn on a Just a blog, Drry also makes a subscribe form for you and shows it at the foot of every post and on your blog's home, so readers can get new posts by email. If your plan has no room for another form, the blog still turns on and you can pick a form later. See Let readers subscribe by email.

Name it and make it yours

Open Blog, then the Settings tab. Name is what readers see at the top of the blog and what this page in your console is titled: Blog, Journal, Notes, whatever fits. Headline and intro are the line, and the sentence or two, at the top of the blog's home. Leave them empty to show just the name. The item in your sidebar keeps reading Blog.

Your blog wears your community's look. Press Customize on the Colors, fonts and logo row to change your colours, fonts and logo once, and the blog follows. See Make it look like yours.

Where it lives

Your blog is at /blog on your community's address, for example yourname.drry.com/blog, and on your own domain once that is connected. You can give it a word of your own instead of blog. See Your blog's address and homepage.
