Write and send an email

The email editor, who you can send to, testing before you send, and what happens after you press the button.

One email in Drry can be used four ways: sent once as a broadcast, sent by an automation, sent as a form's confirmation, or used as a lead magnet delivery. It is the same thing every time, written in the same editor.

Emails live under Emails, on the Broadcasts tab.

  1. Press New email and pick a template

The first tile is Blank canvas if you would rather start empty.

The name at the top of the editor is private. It is how you find this email in your list later, and nobody receives it.

  2. Write the inbox line

Open the Inbox line section and fill in two things.

Subject is what they see in their inbox. Preview text is the grey line next to it. Most people leave preview text empty, and their mail app fills it with the first words of the email, which is usually the word "Hi". Writing it properly is close to free and it noticeably helps.

  3. Build the body

Press Add block and stack what you need: text, images, buttons, dividers, a download button for a file. Up to thirty blocks.

Use Insert to drop in a name that fills itself per person. It offers a fallback for people whose name you do not have, so it reads "Hi Rachel" or "Hi there" rather than "Hi ,".

Hovering a block gives you Save for reuse, which is worth doing with your sign-off so you are not rewriting it every time.

  4. Send yourself a test

From the send menu, choose Send a test to yourself. It arrives with [Test] in front of the subject.

Read it on your phone. That is where most of your list will read it, and it is where layout problems show up.

  5. Choose who gets it, and send

Pick your audience: everyone, just members, just people who have not joined, a list, a segment, or a tag.

Then Send now, or Schedule for later.

Who it comes from

The sender name defaults to your community's wordmark, and you can override it per email under the settings icon, in the field called Send as. Use something a human recognises, usually your own name or your name and your community.

The sending address itself is ours, on a Drry domain. That is deliberate: sending from a domain we manage and monitor protects everyone's delivery. On the Growth plan you can verify your own domain and send from it instead.

Unsubscribing

Every marketing email carries an unsubscribe link, and it must. It is not optional and it cannot be removed. Recipients also see one line saying why they are receiving it, which differs depending on whether they are a member or on a list.

Common questions

Send now is greyed out.

That email is attached to something else, usually an automation step or a form's confirmation. Emails with a job cannot also be broadcast, because it would be too easy to blast your whole list with a welcome message. Duplicate it and send the copy.

How many can I send?

The free plan includes 100 sends per month, counted per recipient. Creator and Growth are unlimited. Every plan is capped at ten broadcasts per day, which is an anti-mistake limit rather than a product one.

Can I see who opened it?

Open and click reporting needs the Creator plan or higher. The sending itself works on every plan.

Someone unsubscribed by mistake. Can I put them back?

The simplest route is to have them fill in one of your forms again, which counts as fresh consent and re-subscribes them. Do not re-add someone who genuinely opted out.
