AI meeting notes and recap for live sessions

On Growth, Drry writes a transcript and a short AI summary of each session you host in Drry and emails you a recap. How to turn it on and where to find it.

After a live session that you hosted in Drry ends, Drry can hand you two things without anyone taking notes: a transcript of what was said, with each line labelled by who said it, and a short written summary in plain language. It also emails you a recap. Nothing joins the call as a bot.

The summary is written for you, the host. Drry gives the writer your community's name, the session title, the description you wrote and the names of the people who spoke, so it reads like a note from someone who was there and not like filed minutes. It aims to be short, 150 to 300 words: a few sentences on what happened, then What came up, Next steps for things someone actually committed to, and Left open for questions nobody answered. A section with nothing real to say is left out.

Turn it on

  1. Choose Host in Drry

Create or edit an event and choose Host in Drry under how it runs. The notes option only appears for that choice.

  2. Find the switch under Options

Open Options and look for Meeting transcription with AI summary. It is on by default for a new event. Switch it off for a session where you do not want a record, such as a private one to one.

  3. Decide before you open the room

Transcription can only be armed when the room first opens. Once you have opened it, the switch locks for that event and reads Transcription cannot change after the room has opened. There is no starting or stopping halfway through a call.

  4. Or set a default for instant meetings

A one click instant meeting has no editor, so it follows your standing default. Open Events & Booking, then the Settings tab, and find Instant meetings. The same switch is there, and it is on unless you turn it off.

  5. Run the session as usual

Everyone in the room is told. On joining they see the notice This session is being transcribed for meeting notes, and a small session status icon in the header explains that a transcript and AI summary are saved for the host after the call.

Where the notes appear

Open the session from your Schedule once it has ended. Its page shows the recording, then a Meeting notes card with the summary on top and the full Transcript underneath, folded away until you open it. While the notes are still being produced the card says Notes are being generated and refreshes itself every ten seconds, so you can leave the page open.

If a room is opened again after it ended, each session is kept separately, newest first, so you do not lose an earlier one.

The recap email

Drry emails you once per session, with the subject Your meeting recap is ready and the session title. It goes to the session's host, or to the community owner if the host has no address. The email carries the summary and an Open the recap button. If a recording is also being processed, the recap can wait for it so you get one email rather than two, for up to three hours.

Nothing is sent to your members. They never receive the transcript or the summary.

What to expect, and the limits

  • English. Transcription is set up for English today.

  • Webinars. Only people on the stage are transcribed: you and anyone you promoted. The watching audience is not in the room, so their questions are not in the transcript unless they came up on stage.

  • Long sessions. The summary reads roughly the first 90,000 characters of the transcript, which comfortably covers a call of an hour or so. If a session runs longer, the summary covers the first part and says so, and the full transcript is on the page.

  • Very short sessions. If hardly anything was said, Drry keeps the transcript and skips the summary rather than invent one. The card then says A summary was not generated for this session.

  • Empty sessions. If only you were in the room, the card says There was nothing to transcribe for this session.

  • When it fails. The card says Notes could not be generated for this session. Drry does not email you an empty recap for that, though it will still email you when a recording is ready.

  • Usage. Transcription is included and draws nothing from your participant hours.

  • Read only. The notes card cannot be edited. Copy what you want into your own document.

Common questions

Do I need the Growth plan?

Yes. Meeting transcription with an AI summary is a Growth feature. Recording a session is a separate thing and is covered in Recordings and replays.

I turned it on but this session has no notes.

The switch has to be on before the room first opens, and the plan is checked again at that moment. If you downgraded between switching it on and opening the room, notes are not started. Also check the session was hosted in Drry and that someone actually spoke.

Can I turn it on after the session started?

No. It is fixed when the room first opens.

Can my members read the summary?

No. The notes live on the event page in your console and in the recap email to you. Members only see the notice in the room that the session is being transcribed.

How long until the notes appear?

They are produced after the session ends, so give it a little while. The page updates by itself while notes are being generated.

Does it work on my own Zoom or Google Meet link?

No. Only rooms hosted in Drry are transcribed. Host a live session in Drry explains how to set one up.

Does transcription use up my live video hours?

No. Recording, transcription and chat are included and do not draw from your participant hours. Live video usage is explained in Live video usage and your spend cap.
