When you schedule a post

When you schedule a post, Email when it goes live picks who hears about it the minute it is live:

  • Your subscribers: the email made from the post as it goes live, to the blog's subscribe list. See Email new posts to your subscribers.

  • Your members, or Members and all your contacts: a draft email is made now, for you to check in Emails. It goes to members, or to members and every contact who takes email.

  • Nobody.

A post sends one of these, never two.

For the second kind, the draft is made from the post as it stands when you schedule it. Open it from Review its email, in the editor's schedule menu or the post's menu on the Posts list, and edit its words in Emails like any draft. It goes out on its own when the post goes live. If you change the post after scheduling, change the email too: the two are not kept in step. Moving the post to another time moves the email with it.

If you unschedule the post, its email stays a draft in Emails and will not go out on its own.

If the allowance cannot cover the email, or the blog is off, the post still goes live and the email waits as a draft, with Email not sent in the editor. If you press Publish now on a post that carries an email, you are asked first, because the email goes out with it.

When a post is already live

Open the post's menu in the editor, or on the Posts list, and pick Email this post. Drry makes a draft email from the live post and opens it in the email editor, where you choose who gets it and send it. Nothing is sent until you do, so the usual checks apply at that point: your allowance, unsubscribes and your postal address footer.

  • The draft holds the live post. Your unpublished changes are not in it.

  • The email's button opens the post, so the blog has to be on. While it is off, the menu item is locked and says Turn the blog on first (or The blog is off, if you cannot turn it on yourself).

  • The post's pictures are copied into the email, and the copies count toward your storage. If your storage is full, the email is still made, without the pictures that did not fit, and Drry tells you.

  • If an email for the post is already waiting, the menu offers Send its email… instead.
