Limit Resources to a membership tier
Keep the whole tab, a folder or a single file or link for one membership tier and up, shown as locked or hidden from everyone else. Growth plan.

By default every member can open everything you publish in Resources. With membership tiers you can keep the whole tab, a folder, or a single file or link for one tier and everything above it. This needs the Growth plan and at least one membership level above your base one. See Membership tiers. The lowest level is not on the list, because everyone who joins already has it.
Where to set it
The whole tab: Customize, then Tabs, then Resources. Under Who is this for? choose a membership. Save.
A folder: in Resources, open the folder's menu, choose Edit folder, and use Who can open it. The control shows once the folder exists.
One file or link: click it, and use Who can open it.
Several at once: tick them, press Access level in the bar at the bottom, pick the tier and how it looks, then Apply.
Locked or hidden
You choose how it looks to everyone below the tier.
Shown as locked: they see the item with a lock and an Unlock with line naming the tier, which takes them to the upgrade options. They cannot open it. This is the one that sells the upgrade.
Hidden from others: it vanishes. It is not listed, not searchable and not counted, and its address says the page is not found. For the whole tab the wording is Hidden from them.
How the limits combine
Limits stack: the tab, then the folder, then the file. A limit on a folder applies to everything inside it. A file can be set higher than its folder, and the higher tier wins. A file cannot be made easier to open than its folder.
Moving a file out of a limited folder, or deleting that folder, keeps the folder's limit on the file. The folder's confirmation tells you when this happens. That way tidying up never opens something by accident. A file you move into a limited folder takes that folder's limit.
What this changes elsewhere
Emails: when you email members about files, each member's email lists only the files they can open. A member who can open none gets no email and costs no send.
Links: members open a link through Drry, so a locked link's address stays hidden from anyone it is not for. Someone you gave the address to directly can still open it on that site.
If you leave Growth: limits you already set keep working. What stops is your ability to change them.
Common questions
Can I limit a file to one named member?
No. Limits are by membership tier: that tier and everything above it.
I do not see Who can open it.
The control appears when your community has membership tiers above the base one, which is a Growth feature. Without tiers every member can open everything that is published.
Does a limit hide the file from me?
No. You and your team always see the whole library in the console.
