Website lists and item pages

Keep a portfolio, team, testimonials or press once, show it on any page, and give each item a page of its own.

A list is a set of like things you keep on your website: your work, your team, what clients say, where you were featured, your services. You fill it in once, then show it on any page, and each item can get a page of its own. Lists are part of the website beta.

Make a list

  1. Open Website, then the Pages tab

Lists sit under your pages, headed Lists (Fill these in once, show them anywhere. Each item gets its own page.).

  2. Press New list and pick a starting point

The presets are Portfolio, Team, Testimonials, Press, Case studies, Services and Blank. Each brings fields and a card style that suit it, so a new list is a finished design. You can rename it and change its fields and address later.

  3. Add items

Press Add and the kind of thing the list holds. An item has a title, an address of its own and one value per field. It stays a draft until you publish it, so you can fill it in at your own pace. Save and publish puts it live.

  4. Show it on a page

Nothing shows until you place the list on a page. In the page editor choose Add section, then Your lists, then Collection. See below.

The list's two tabs

A list opens in its own editor with two tabs, Items and Fields & settings.

  • Items: see them as a Table or as Cards, drag to reorder, and use an item's menu for Edit, Publish or Unpublish, Preview (when items have pages, a draft too), Duplicate and Delete. Import CSV brings in a file with a title column and a column per field, named by the field. Preview this list opens the list's own page.

  • Fields & settings: the list's name, Address, Line under the title, Give each one its own page, Card style and its fields, and Delete collection.

An item's address is made from its title. Changing a live item's address breaks links people already have.

Fields and cards

Every item holds its title plus up to 12 fields, each one of nine kinds: Text, Rich text, Image, Link, Date, Number, Tags, Yes or no and Linked from Drry. A linked field points at things your community already has, classes and events, courses or products, and shows them live, so a renamed or cancelled class changes everywhere it appears.

You do not design a card. It follows the fields: the first image is the picture, the first text is the line under the title, the first rich text is the quote or body, and the first tags are the filter. Card style is Cover (a wide picture over the title), Portrait (a round photo, for people), Quote (the words first, for testimonials) or Compact (a small logo and a line, for press). Removing a field deletes its values from every item, after a confirmation.

A list holds up to 500 items, and a community up to 30 lists.

Pages for each item

With Give each one its own page on, the list has a page at / and its address word, such as /work, and each item at /work/item. The presets for Portfolio, Team, Case studies and Services turn this on, and Testimonials and Press leave it off, so a card there links wherever its own link field says. Changing the address word moves the list's page and every item's page, and old links stop working. With pages off, items show only where you place the list on a page. Turning pages off takes the list's pages down.

Item page is Built-in or Designed. Choose Designed, then Edit the item page, to lay every item's page out yourself: a freeform canvas where each text, photo or button can be filled from the item's title or one of its fields (Fill from field), or left as it is on every item. A Sample item picker shows the design filled in. Fields an item leaves empty are hidden on that item's page, so no placeholder words reach a visitor. Your design is live on every item's page only when you save it. Use the built-in page puts the standard layout back and removes the design, after a confirmation.

The Collection section

In the page editor the section's panel offers Collection (which list), Heading, Layout (Grid, List or Carousel), Order (Your order, Newest first, Oldest first or A to Z), Only items tagged (show one group), How many items (up to 24) and, when the list has pages, Link to the collection's page, a See all link under the items. Only published items show. A list on a page whose list was deleted draws nothing.

Common questions

Why does my list show nothing on the page?

Items are drafts until you publish them, and a list shows only where you place it with a Collection section.

Can I move my list's items around?

Yes. Drag them in the Items tab, or choose Your order in the section to show them in that order.

What happens if I move down to Free?

Lists you already made stay live. You can unpublish items and delete lists. New lists, and putting a list on a page that did not hold one, need Creator or Growth.
