A lead magnet is a file you give away in exchange for an email address. A workbook, a meal plan, a checklist, a sample chapter. It is the most reliable way to build a list of people who are interested but not ready to buy.

Start a form with the Lead magnet preset
Funnels, then Forms, then New form, then Lead magnet. It arrives with an email field, a first name field, a list called Subscribers, and a submit button that says Get the guide.
Upload your file
In the right panel, find Deliver a freebie and press Upload a file. PDFs, documents, slides, spreadsheets and zip files all work.
Until a file is attached there is a warning in coral telling you so, and publishing is blocked. That is deliberate: a lead magnet with no file sends people a dead link.
Name the list you want them on
In Add them to an audience, either pick an existing list or type a new name. Name it after the thing they downloaded, not after the general idea of a mailing list. Six months from now "Meal plan downloads" tells you something and "Subscribers" does not.
Decide how they get the file
Two ways, and you can use both.
On the thank you screen. Switch on "Show the download here" and the button appears immediately after they submit. Fastest, and it works even if your email lands in spam.
By email. Pick a confirmation email. The download button is added to the end of it automatically, so you do not need to build one yourself. If you have not written that email yet, go to Emails, press New email, write it, then come back and select it here.
Publish and share the link
Publish, then copy the link. Put it in your bio, send it to your list, or drop the form onto a funnel page if you want a proper pitch above it.
Common questions
How big can the file be?
There is no separate limit on the file itself. It counts against your plan's storage allowance like anything else you upload.
Can I send the file as an attachment instead of a link?
No. Attachments hurt deliverability and get stripped by some mail providers. Drry always sends a link.
How do I follow up after they download it?
Build an automation that starts when someone joins the list this form fills. That is a separate article, and it is the next one in this section.
Can I swap the file later without breaking old links?
Upload a new file on the same form and the button in future emails points at the new one. Links already in someone's inbox continue to point at the old file until you delete the form.
